Remote Control Help
This widget allows two users at remote sites to see the same view of the
same data and hence do remote collaboration and analysis of the data.
Each user must have a running version of DAVE and a copy of the dataset
(or, if they are sharing a NURB deformable surface, one user should have the
finite element shrinkwrap running (fem) and the other should have DAVE running,
see below).
Prior to activating this widget each user should start DAVE running on
his or her computer with the correct dataset. Use of this widget then
provides a mechanism for coordinating the view that both users see.
The first step in coordinating remote control is to establish a
connection with the remote computer. To do this type the computer's
internet name (e.g., computer.university.edu) on the blank green line
below the status line. Then click on the CONNECT button to connect
to this machine. The user at the other computer should do the same
(but with your computer's internet name). If the computers have been
successful in establishing a connection, the Status line should change from
"Disconnected" to "Connected".
Once the two computers have both connected to each other, the current
viewing information can be sent at any time by clicking on the SEND button.
Remote Control Menu
Input Port Number
This is the port which data from the other computer is expected on; it
should match the output port number setting on the remote computer.
Choosing this menu item pops up a widget which lets you change this number.
The default port number should normally be ok. Input and output port numbers
can be the same (unless the local and "remote" computers are one and the same).
Output Port Number
This is the port to which data from this computer will be sent; it
should match the input port number setting on the remote computer.
Choosing this menu item pops up a widget which lets you change this number.
The default port number should normally be ok. Input and output port numbers
can be the same (unless the local and "remote" computers are one and the same).
Ignore remote DAVE commands
When this item is picked, views sent from the remote computer will be
ignored (even though the two computers are CONNECTED).
Talk
Choosing this item pops up a shared "blackboard". Each user can type
a message in the upper region of the board and SEND it to the other user.
Once sent, the message is moved to the lower region. Any reply from the
remote user also shows up in the lower region (in red). Only the most
recently sent message and reply are kept in the lower region.
NURBS
DAVE can also communicate with Larry's finite element shrinkwrap program
(fem). In this case, one user runs DAVE and one runs fem. Fem should be run
with the -J option to specify ports to connect to. Fem can then send DAVE
deformed surfaces. Choosing this menu item pops up a widget which allows the
user to manually deform the surface sent to DAVE. Once manually deformed it
can be sent back to fem for further analysis.
